Application as a lawyer
Once you've survived the interview, you are of course looking forward to the feedback of your potential employer. Usually a date is mentioned in the end of the conversation, from which you will be informed if you get the desired location. Therefore, you should not push for a decision before the deadline as well. This deters more. However, you can express in an unobtrusive form once again for your interest in the position offered. Therefore, you should after the interview write a thank you letter. However, this letter of thanks should be sent no later than 3 days after the interview. So bring yourself again in the memory of your potential employer. The following is an example of a job interview thank you letter:

Interview on 21/10/2009
Dear Mr. Attorney Gruber,
I would like to thank at this point for the insightful interview on 21.10.2009 at you. I said goodbye to you with the feeling that they had been well informed about the advertised position of the Department of Labour lawyer.
Therefore, my decision was solidified to use my professional experience and skills to your firm. As mentioned in our conversation, I could already gained extensive experience in similar positions. In addition, should my business contacts and additional qualifications speak for me as a suitable candidate.
A positive answer I would be very happy.

I've never heard of sending a gift after a job interview. It sounds kind of like bribery to me. If I ever received such a gift after interviewing someone (in the computer field), I would be required by my company's code of ethics to report it and send it back.
It's traditional in the high tech field to send a thank you letter after an interview. Thank them for their time, briefly restate how you will be an asset to their company, and maybe comment on something particularly interesting that you learned from them. Most people don't actually send such a letter, so one sets you apart from the other candidates.
